Connectivity Overview
IMPORTANT! Applies to countries where Henny Penny connectivity is available.
Your Henny Penny fryer includes built-in connectivity that lets your restaurant monitor fryer performance, oil life, filtering habits, alerts, and usage from the HENNYLINK™ portal. This topic explains what happens when the fryer is ordered, and what needs to happen to ensure a successful connection.
Who Provides the Internet / WiFi at the Fryer?
The restaurant is responsible for providing a strong, secure, reliable Internet / WiFi connection at the fryer’s location.
Tip: Avoid “guest WiFi” that requires a web browser sign-in.
-
Aim for a signal strength between 0 and –80 dBm.
-
If the signal is –80 dBm or weaker (e.g., –85, –90) or your network doesn’t reach the fryer, you’ll need to improve coverage.
Ways to improve coverage
You can do one of the following:
-
Add a WiFi booster or access point extender near the fryer.
-
Move the access point closer to the fryer, if possible.
-
Use a cellular gateway. Any business grade gateway will work with the dongle to extend and strengthen the signal. Henny Penny doesn't sell a cellular gateway but recommends the Intwine Connect model ICG-150 gateway.
Before the Fryer Arrives: What to Expect
When your restaurant orders a new fryer, your distributor sets up the connection process ahead of time. This keeps startup day smooth. The distributor will contact the restaurant to gather the following information and register each unit in the HENNYLINK™ portal:
-
Owner / operator name or the name of the person who will manage the HENNYLINK™ portal for your restaurant or restaurant group.
-
Email for the owner operator or the person who will manage the HENNYLINK™ portal application.
-
Restaurant details.
Once registered, the administrator (often the owner / operator) receives two emails.
Email #1 Password Setup and User License Agreement (ULA)
Important: The fryer will not send data until the ULA is accepted.
This email:
-
Asks you to create or reset your password.
-
Requires you to accept the User License Agreement (ULA).
Email #2 Fryer MAC Address
NOTE: Do this step before startup day to avoid delays. The MAC address is on a label, above the left door.
If your restaurant’s network requires device approvals, you’ll need the fryer’s MAC address to whitelist it. If you are unsure on this question, contact your IT personnel to find out.
Alternative Option: Register via QR Code (If emails weren’t received)
If the fryer didn’t register ahead of time or no emails, no ULA accepted, as an alternative, you can register to get signed up for HENNYLINK™ portal at the restaurant. Find the QR code on the HENNYLINK™ portal label at the top of the fryer door.
To Register:
-
Scan the QR code with a phone / tablet or visit https://commissioning.hennylink.com/ to register. A Fryer Commissioning page opens.
-
Enter:
-
Restaurant name
-
Store number
-
Fryer serial number
-
Owner / operator name
-
Owner / operator email
-
Accept the User License Agreement (ULA).
IMPORTANT: It can take up to 10 minutes processing time for the fryer to update and display the ULA as Accepted on the Network Information screen.
